History

A 15-year trajectory of challenges, innovation and achievements  

  2002-2004

  • From the integration of Copene, OPP, Trikem, Proppet, Nitrocarbono and Polialden, Braskem was created on August 16, 2002
  • The Company has its shares listed on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3) and, in 2004, its ADRs begin trading on the NYSE

   2006

  • Braskem acquires Politeno, 3rd largest producer of PE in Brazil, increasing its resins capacity by 20% and starting the consolidation phase of the petrochemical industry in the Country

 

   2007

  • Braskem acquires the chemical and petrochemical assets of the Ipiranga Group, including the control of Copesul, thus concluding the consolidation of the petrochemical sector in Brazil

 

   2008

  • In partnership with Petrobras, Braskem opens a PP plant in Paulínia, the Company's first greenfield project

 

 

   2009

  • In May 2009, the merger of Petroquímica Triunfo into Braskem was approved
  • Creation of the Braskem-Idesa JV for the implementation of a petrochemical project in Mexico

 

    2010

  • Braskem announces acquisition of Quattor
  • Beginning of the internationalization process with acquisition of the Sunoco PP plants in the USA
  • Inauguration of green ethylene / PE plants at the petrochemical complex of Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul

   2011

  • Acquisition of Dow Chemical's PP assets in U.S. and Germany, becoming the largest producer of PP in the United States

 

   2012

  • Start-up of the new PVC unit in the state of Alagoas, with a capacity of 200 ktons/year
  • Start-up of the new butadiene plant at the Triunfo complex

 

   2016

  • Start-up of the Braskem Idesa complex in Mexico, a partnership with the Mexican company Idesa S.A.P.I., representing a milestone in the strategy of diversification of raw materials and internationalization

 

   2017

  • Braskem starts a new ultra-high molecular weight PE plant (UTEC®) in Texas, strengthening its presence in the Americas
